Slide of Death (near Bushrangers Cave)

Date: 2026-August-01

Slide of Death         near
Bushrangers Cave   in
Mount Victoria
NSW, Australia

The rock in this post is
"Slide of Death" ...
named after a similar rock
at the tip of Bonnum Pic
(Nattai National Park, NSW)

In both rocks, when sliding down,
you can't veer left nor right,
else you are bye-bye 😊

How Uluru / Ayers Rock in Australia was formed

To all of you who didn't pay attention to
geology classes in school ...

Meteor / Barringer Crater in Arizona, USA ...
from a hard meteorite impact.
     and
Uluru / Ayers Rock in Northern Territory,
Australia ...

how it was formed.

Above should prove to any flat-earthers
that our Earth is round.

By the way, the Australian government
sensibly banned climbing Uluru.

Otherwise you'll fall into outer space.

Sphinx or penis ?

An interesting rock that looks like a Sphinx ... or something else  :-)

- Location:  Ben Bullen State Forest, NSW, Australia
2.25 km north-north-west of Baal Bone Gap
Exactly halfway between Mercurys Boot and Baal Bone Point.
If you walk along the ridge from Baal Bone Gap to Baal Bone Point, you won't miss it.

- Map:  Ben Bullen
- Grid Reference:  280 205
- Date:  2020-09-05 and 2020-10-15  Photographed during bushwalks

( A detailed trip report of the 2020-09-05 bushwalk is in this link:
http://mntviews.blogspot.com/2020/09/mercurys-boot-ben-bullen-to-baal-bone.html
In particular, the 2 pictures below are photos #32 and #33 of the link. )
After the trip, I registered the rock in BushExplorers Encyclopaedia as "Baal Sphinx Rock"
because it looks like a Sphinx.
( Refer to this link:
https://www.bushexplorers.com.au/encyclopaedia/baal-sphinx-rock )

It could be worse.
I could have submitted the picture below and registered a different name  :-)
Looks like a human body part  :-)

Submarine rock

Two Submarine-like rocks:

1)  A rainbow-coloured rock
Location: Coast Track in Royal National Park, NSW, Australia
     Date: 2020-05-10

More pictures of the Coast Track are in this link:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1x4gQ45uvVZ4pHkaREgHlSCZK1EywEZbS/view?usp=sharing

2)  A pagoda-like rock
Location: Ben Bullen State Forest, NSW, Australia
     Date: 2020-09-05 and 2020-10-15
This rock can be climbed, but not so easy due to the gap (red oval) circling its entire base.

The
2020-09-05 detailed trip report is in this link:
http://mntviews.blogspot.com/2020/09/mercurys-boot-ben-bullen-to-baal-bone.html

Pictures of the 2020-10-15 bushwalking trip is in this link:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ddJIJj_Rrhlk0AkqYOmfBvgHpL9pFyx0/view?usp=sharing

An appropriate name for it would be "Baal Submarine Pagoda".
One day, I would like to register this name with BushExplorers Encyclopaedia.

Faces on rocks

On the trip to climb Mt Touwouwan near Dunns Swamp in Wollemi National Park, NSW, Australia, I keep seeing faces on rocks.
( Photos and a write up on the climb are in my blog:
http://mntviews.blogspot.com.au/2016/02/mt-touwouwan-wollemi-nat-pk-nsw.html )

Below are 4 faces from the above mentioned blog.  Has anyone noticed them besides me?

1)  Taken at Pagoda Lookout, a detour on the way to climb Mt Touwouwan ~~~

Actually it looks more like the Sphinx.
I have been climbing on the rocks. For example, I was on top of the rock pointed to by the red arrow ... see my trip report in the above mentioned blog

2)  Taken on the return trip after climbing Mt Touwouwan ~~~
This one looks like the face of a frog.

3)  On the bank of Cudgegong River ~~~
This face even has a tougue.

4)  Also on the bank of Cudgegong River ~~~
A happy Buddha

Faces I saw on other climbing trips:

Face-like rock

An interesting face like rock at the summit of
Tinderry Twin Peak, NSW, Australia

It is not hard to climb Tinderry Twin.
If you are fit and healthy, have a go at it.

Photographs and details on how to climb
this mountain are in my blog:

As to the rock ...
Even if you don't climb it, you'll enjoy
marveling at it from the summit.
