Porch of the Caryatids
Refers to a natural pagoda, located on the cliff top
directly above the Main Western Line,
between Tunnels No. 9 and 10,
in the Blue Mountains.

This pagoda is underpinned by 8 brick columns
to prevent it collapsing onto the railway line below.

Named by Michael Keats on a Bush Club walk
2012-Feb-06.

(Caryatids are sculpted female figures
serving as architectural supports
taking the place of a column or a pillar.

One of the best known examples is
a porch annex to the Parthenon
on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece.)

Adrian Sie didn't trust me

I found Australian bushwalkers / hikers
are a friendly / sensible bunch of people ...

... Except a guy named Adrian Sie.

He is loud-mouthed;
and talks as if he has the most knowledge
about bushwalking / hiking.

And yet, at the time of this writing,
he doesn't lead hiking trips.
He badgers others to take him instead.
He is a hangers-on, like a leach.

I took him for a bushwalk once.
Then no more.
He was too slow.

Anyway, on 2024-July-06
Sam Dworry organised a bushwalk to Lion Rock
in Mugii Murum-ban State Conservation Area.

She invited me to lead.

We had about 8 or 9 people going,
including Adrian Sie.

Then, Adrian wanted to add 2 more of his friends.
I said no ... because:
    - I don't know Adrian's friends.
    - 8 is the max group size I'm willing to lead.

So Adrian sent this message to the group
formed for this trip.

He said he didn't trust me.
(Fancy saying this in public !)

He also said he withdrew from the group
(and thus the trip).

That was fine by me as I didn't like him anyway.

But 2 days later, he rejoined the group and the trip !
(Probably because Sam asked him to rejoin us.)

I don't like a guy who
doesn't have the conviction in himself.

If he publicly declared he withdrew from the trip,
then he should stick to his declaration
like a man !

Does this guy have no pride in himself ???

Green pool at Mt Yulludunida

Unusual green pool

Near top of Mt Yulludunida
Mt Kaputar National Park
NSW, Australia

The pool is formed by rain water.
Hence it can dry out.

Green colour comes from grass/moss
under the crystal-clear water.

I was lucky.
The 3 times I was up here

Glow-worms are insects having
a bioluminescent larval stage.

The roof of a cave / overhang
covered with glow-worms
can look remarkably like a blue starry night sky ...
due to the collective bioluminescent glow
from the larvae.

The larva hangs down sticky silk threads
from the ceiling of a cave.
The glow from its head attracts prey
and ensnare them in the threads.

Generally glow-worms have few predators.
Their greatest danger is from human interference.
